"Golden Window into the Prehistoric Past" Amber is the fosilized resin of prehistoric tress formed 20 - 50 million years ago in the period geologic time known as the Tertiary. Because of its transparency, amber gives one a starling look at ancient ecosystems that have long disappeared. Strongest trees of the ancient forest survived the onslaught of nature by producing healing resin to bandage the wounds. Large quantities of the resin would run from the wounded ares and literally spill down the trunks and drip from ranches, catching in the branch forks and forming puddles on the ground. As the resin flowed and dripped, it picked up everything on its path, from flora, to tiny animals, and hardens relative quickly. The resin formed a protective showcase around its guests. With passage of time, the resin fossilized. To look into the heart of amber is to look into another time. To own amber is to own a part of our prehistoric past, our evolutionary history. |
