Hippo ivory are actually the tooth of hippopotamus. They are also called ivory too, and not to be mistaken with elephant ivory. No elephants have been harmed. We do not kill the hippopotamus, but rather adopt them when they die of natural causes. These pieces are legally imported into the United States according to the Fish and Wildlife Regulations. All our African imports are from Southern Africa countries, and are handmade or scrimshawed. No machine mass production is been involved. We personally know most of the carvers. Most pieces are signed and of high quality of standard. |
